Paws For Thought And Support Dogs Trust

Here at The Memory Knot Company, we’re dog lovers and owners of a loud and hyper-active cairn border cross called Hemi. Dogs Trust is a charity close to our hearts and is one of the charities our business supports and donates to monthly. When engaged couples visit us in our showroom to discuss their wedding décor requirements, they often bring their fur babies to help with the wedding planning.

Incidentally, you may be wondering why we called our dog Hemi… well… with Andrew being into his hot rods, drag racing, and American muscle cars she is named after a V8 engine! When she’s naughty, we call her by her full name, Hemispherical Combustion Chamber Johnston… well… you were wondering! She’s full of energy and loves to ‘help’ when we’re busy getting ready for weddings… seen here with a sequin on her nose! 

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity. They support dogs and dog lovers with training, advice and outreach projects, making them the UK’s leading voice in dog welfare. They have 21 rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland, where they care for 15,000 dogs every year until they can find their forever homes. They never put a healthy dog down and are working towards a day when all dogs can enjoy a happy life, free from the threat of unnecessary destruction.

As every dog lover knows, each dog is a unique individual, with their own quirks, delights and challenges! Our dog Hemi is certainly not averse to getting up to mischief!

Behaviours develop through a combination of multiple elements including breed, individual personality, medical issues, and prior experiences. So, understanding why an individual dog develops a problem behaviour can be like a detective mystery – identifying all the different elements which tell his or her story. Our pup certainly has a cheeky personality!! 

In their rehoming centres they are committed to caring for and rehabilitating dogs which have behaviour problems. In Dogs Trust Dog School their mission is to work with owners to prevent problems developing in the first place!
